As promised, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2 in 3D. Sorry it took so long, but I was skeptical of the quality and reconverted it several times with different settings and had the same outcome. To me, many scenes seemed grainy or out of focus as compared to Part 1, and I'm not sure if that's because this was filmed using 3D equipment or what. It did help a lot to watch it from a distance from the TV. You'll notice what I'm talking about if you stand closer. Also, most of the movie is shot with dark scenes, and this does not help viewing with Active 3D glasses that tend to "tint" the image. I have yet to view it on a Passive set like LG's TVs to see if it's a lot brighter, but I would guess it is. My honest take on the film is that given the opportunity to have a mind-blowing 3D experience, being filmed in 3D, this movie fails to take full advantage unlike it's counter parts Avatar and Dark of the Moon. See what you think... Source: 3D Bluray Disk Video: Encoded in H264 with a variable bit rate into a half side-by-side image Audio: DTS-HD 5.1 English Subtitles: English Container/Extension: MKV You do need 3D equipment to view this. I.E. a 3D TV that can display a side-by-side (stereoscopic) image in 3D, 3D glasses, and a mediaplayer that can play the MKV file and stream it to your TV.
Awesome. Thank you.
dude can you do a back to the future 2d to 3d?
i have a lg passive 3dtv i will let you know if it clear
whoaaaa... this film is taking the piss to download been on 5hrs now still only 27%
Most of the leechers are at about 85% complete so please be patient. Once we have some of those seeders done, it will make a big difference. It always takes a long time when you have 1 seeder and 150 leechers for files this size, and worse yet when I my connection is slowed by proxy and vpn.
I know a lot of people finished the download and we only have a handful of seeders. Please don't download and bail. At least seed for a day or two to help out with new leechers when you get finished, that's all I ask. Thanks
on 70% now mate i will seed for 1 week how about that back to the future 2d to 3d can you do that for me ?
i also have a passive LG 3D tv. will let u know how it looks.

It's unfortunate it's downloading so unbelievably slowly, this one may take me all weekend at this rate ugg. But appreciate your effort all the same, keep up the fantastic work!

RAVESTER, I have an LG tv as well. I know how extract the DTS and convert it to AC3.
But when I try to merge the AC3 audio with the MKV file using MKVMerge, I still can't play the file on my TV, it comes up File Not Valid.
What step am I missing? You said you then have to convert it to Mp4. Do you do that after you use MKVMerge to put in the AC3 file? Any help is appreciated!

@MVC78
it depends if your tv supports the mkv file.
the only reason i convert it to mp4 is so i can play it on my ps3 (because ps3 doesn't play mkv vids)
but mp4 works on pretty much everything so it should work on your tv if u cant get the mkv to work.

hi, i have downloaded it, and my 3dtv does support .mkv, but when i copied it to a external hdd, on the tv it said something like "invalid file" so i converted it to avi and tried again, this time, it plays fine, but when in 3d mode on the tv the it doesnt look right, the images are merged but it looks like the images dont fit together properly, what am i doing wrong? how do i get it to play on my 3dtv (lg passive) ? my tv definatly DOES do .mkv as have played many other movies fine
thanks :)
thanks :)
I apologize for "being out of the loop" lately. Holidays are a busy time for me. Anyways, I understand the ups and downs to DTS HD/True HD vs AC3 audio as far as the PS3 goes. I can convert future titles in AC3 audio for better compatibility with the PS3. Really there's almost no difference in quality for the average user. If you have a 20K system with a 5k receiver, then ya I can see your point otherwise AC3 is fine. As far as playback directly to your TV off a thumb drive or external harddrive... I DO NOT recommend. Every TV brand is "picky" this way, even if it plays MKV, it may not like the encoding of the X264 video, etc. I suggest, for a modest expense, getting a little video streamer for your setup. I recommend the ones made by Roku, Seagate, Western Digital. These little boxes will play just about any file you through at it. They are cheap and you no longer have to worry about reconverting all your downloads to correct formats. I too was a PS3 user for my media files, but ever since Cinavia Protection came along, I use it for gaming only. No need for MKV2VOB either. Just convert/download and enjoy! I hope this helps.
Hey guyz i have a problem i always stream my movies via laptop hdmi for 3d using vlc but problem is the movie wont play on full screen hence side by side merge is becoming a problen on sony ex720 but when i use aspect rarios in vlc it wont be in full screen in any of them please help dont want to loose 10 gig.
so in the mean time how can i play this? will it work through hdmi from laptop to tv? also if not is their any software to intergrate the two images to watch on non3D display... i mean i dont get why 3D needs hardware, surely software that would intergrate the two images would work fine on any display? thanks :)
John,
AC3 ups would be much more appreciated as some LG TVs simply won't play DTS :(. Thanks!
Also I'm DYING to start converting some movies to 3D. I know you use DVDFAB but are there any other tips you can give me. I have the v 8.1.3.2 but it crashes for most movies that I try to convert to 3D.
The ones that I am able to convert don't come out looking that great. Can you please help me out, what profile do you use to make your 3D movies? Also do you leave Gain and Visual Depth at default or do you customize those options to something else? And lastly, what frame resolution do you choose?
Thanks SO much if you can help, I'd like to start converting 2D movies myself but I just can't find the right options for DVDFab to make it look like yours :(

@JohnSmith25 I don't mean to be cheeky, But is their anyway you could re-post this with AC3 so I can play on my LG tv? Thanks :)
You can use software to convert the side-by-side image into one for viewing in 3D and there are many choices out there for doing this, but one that does the best is a paid software, Cyberlink PowerDVD. It's not cheap, almost as much as buying a media streamer box like I mentioned before. Even if you get that far, you still ultimately need a 3D display to view the image correctly. A regular HD TV, even if it could display the picture, wouldn't look right. Also, Nvidia's website has some software "3D Vision" that also does the side-by-side converting. I believe Nvidia's is more for PC applications however. If you are having trouble in the LGs, the best bet is a reconversion using AC3 audio. I will try to get those done. Most TVs shouldn't have a problem with x264 video in a MKV container. I know it's an investment guys, but getting yourself a mediaplayer box, and a 2TB external drive is the simplist way to build up a movie library and enjoy on the fly.
@MVC78 - I use DVDfab with the default settings, and you're right, most of the 2D conversions aren't worth the few hours it takes to do them, it just doesn't give the movies much extra IMO. So far the only measurable success is with animation. One question I have for you is what you are using as the source? Raw Bluray files? or converted Bluray like what you get using Ripbot264? All my movies are converted Bluray using Ripbot 4.1 high quality profile. Then I take those MKV files and load them into DVDfab and select the 2D to 3D conversion. You have to select half SBS of course, because nothing seems to handle a double 1080P image. You can choose "audiocopy" or 640kbps AC3. One thing to remember is that you can't expect great results from DVDfab on 2D upconverts. You forget movie studios do this to a lot of 2D productions, and even those don't meet the bar. DVDfab is end user software, nothing like the studios use. DVDfab's best use is for ripping and coverting 3D Blruay for SBS viewing like many on here are doing.

so what would you say was the best way to convert this to mkv with ac3? thanks :)

Thanks a lot for your feedback, John! You really are a mate and a treasure to this board. I've decided to leave the 3D conversions to the pros like you, since I was simply trying to convert movies I downloaded on here to 3D, and not even Bluray rips at that haha. No wonder they were coming out so crappy while yours look amazing! Thanks for your response, now I know it's a futile process so just keep up the great work for those of us that are unable to do what you do!!
@1iam5mith - Whoa, that image looks messed up. Something's not right with either A: The conversion you did to AVI or B: The program you are using, if any, to stream the file to your tv. Something's not displaying the SBS image correctly. I saw in your first post that you tried an external HDD directly to your TV and the file said "invalid" and that's why you converted correct? Do you still have the original uncoverted MKV file? Try a program called Nero MediaHome. It's a free-to-try thing but you can play around with the streamer part of it. I don't know if your TV supports media servers or if you have to run it through a PS3 or Bluray player, but Nero MediaHome does "on the fly" conversion as it streams, so it can send the data to the TV in a playable format, without having to actually reencode the MKV file. I was using this program for all my movie viewing before I got the WD TV Live and the network attached storage as my TV's wouldn't directly play the SBS MKV files either . Now the NAS streams across the network and the WD TV Live does the converting or viewing of the files at each TV.
@johnsmith25 Will Nero MediaHome Work With The PS3? My Tv Plays Evey Other MKV SBS From USB And HDD, But Because Its Over 4GB My 16GB FAT32 USB Stick Cant Have It ... I Converted It To A Smaller MKV File, Also Tried MP4, Also Yes I Do Have The Original MKV, I Also Tried Through HDMI From Laptop To TV, And No Sound Lol, So Nero MediaHome Will Work With The PS3? The PS3 Wont Play MKV ? Thanks For The Help :)
@1iam5mith Why don't you reformat your usb stick to NTFS? Seems like the easiest solution...
TO ALL LG 3D TV USERS!
DTS is NOT compatible if you plug your usb hdd directly on the TV, don't panic, just use this tool http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKV2AC3 and it will remove the DTS from the movie!
I takes around 20 min to get the work done, but it does an amazing one! Good luck LG 3DTV users!

Good quality Rip. Overall 3D is good, not as good as movies shot with stereo cameras, but still good, especially for scenes which has lots of CG. Imperfections are not as noticeable as the version of Deathly hallows part 1 3D. Thanks a lot to johnsmith25 for uploading content for us 3D enthusiasts, keep it rolling...
P.S. Would love to get the 3D Blu-Ray version of Transformers : Dark of the Moon. Thanks.
